SYDNEY CITY COUNCIL.

LABOR DEFEATS. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, December 3. Much interest was shown in the city municipal fictions. Labor made a bold bid to capture the council, running candidates for all the seats. The chief feature is the defeat of Sir Allen Taylor, ex-Lord Mayor, whose seat was captured by Mr. Mcßae, a member of the Municipal Labor Assembly. The Liberals not only succeeded in holding their own, but captured a seat from Labor. The old council consisted' of seven Labor, nineteen Liberals and Independents. The new council comprises seventeen Liberals, five Labor, and four Independents, though most of the last-named are Labor sympathisers. Mr. Dick Meagher was reelected.
