A LAND ENQUIRY. London, December 2. Lord Halsbury. in the House of Lords, called attention to the land enquiry, and the circulation of forms without an knprint, and headed "private and confidential." He said that the circulators were apparently seeking to suggest that the forms were a public document, and he suggested that the law officers should prosecute.

COMPULSORY SERVICE. London, December 2. In the House of Commons, Mr. Byles, in view of Lord Roberts' speeches, is asking for particulars regarding compulBory service in Australia, also whether only 40 per cent, obeyed the order for enrolment. Colonel Seely replied that he had placed the Commonwealth Parliamentary paper in the library. He was not aware of any general resistance to the compulsory clauses.
