E. T. HOOLEY.
RELEASED FROM GAOL. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. London, December 2. Ernest Terah Hooley, the one-time famous company promoter, who in February last was sentenced to a year's imprisonment for obtaining £2OOO by false pretences over a property transaction, has been released from gaol.
Hooley spent a few weeks in gaol last year for contempt of Court in refusing to supply the trustee in bankruptcy with details of his business transactions. His liabilities in his bankruptcy were about £200,000, and his only assets a parcel of shares held by creditors against a loan of £BOO. In February he was tried and sentenced for fraud in connection with the sale of Risley Hall to Mr. Tweedale, a young man who had inherited a fortune of £45,000 when he came of age, and who was then twentythree. Mr. Tweedale came into possession of that fortune in August of last year; £15,000 was in freehold property, and the remaining £30,000 was in investments readily convertible into cash. In October of last year Mr. Tweedale was introduced to Hooley. Thereafter they entered into a number of transactions, with the result that by November Mr. Tweedale had parted with all the easily convertible portions of his fortune ,(£30,000) and made himself liable for something more.
