Auckland, Thursday. The Rugby Union approve.l of the suggestion that the English Rugby Union be asked to authorise amendments in the rules from time to time necessary in the interests of the game in New Zealand, with a proviso disapproving of alterations of. the rules with regard to professionalism. The proposed amendment of rule 48 was regarded with some suspicion, as preparing the way for cutting the painter, but was approved when safeguarded by the qualification in regard to professionalism. The Auckland Cricket Association, which roccntly purchased Eden Park, agreed to lease it to the Rugby Union for twenty-one years. Eden Park is centrally situated, and the new arrangement will probably give the Rugby game a fresh impetus.
