THE RAILWAY SERVICE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Napier, Tuesday. At a meeting of the local branch of railway officers, a resolution was passed expressing disappointment that the unanimous findings of the 1011 Parliamentary Commission with regard to concessions have not been carried out in their entirety, and deprecating the principle of curtailing concessions to lower-paid officers on the score of expanse, svhile at the same time granting substantial increases to heads of departments.
J DERELICT SIGHTED. j ' Wellington, Tuesday. i The captain of the Surrey reports havling sighted, five miles off Castlepoint, a derelict. It is apparently a waterlogged sailing vessel. Only fifteen feet of must is showing.
NEW TOURIST ROUTE. Gore, Tuesday
Murrell Bros., after many attempts, have made it possible for a motor launch to make the trip between Lakes. Munapouri and Te Anau by th; Odrmu River. In place of the uninteresting motor ride tourists will now be able to journey between the lakes through I he'finest'river scenery in the Dominion.
THE ENTERPRISING BURGLAR. Auckland, Tuesday
In the Police Court, William Frederick Murray, aged 10. and Sidney Power, aged 21. appeared on sixteen charges of theft, chiefly bag-snatching. The Magistrate said that the accused, who were confirmed criminals, had been guilty of thefts of a contemptible character, sneaking about offices and stealing the property of poor charwomen. Both were sentenced to six months' hard labor. Magistrate added that he did not know what would happen to them after they got out of gaol, but they would have to clear out of this country.
