PLAGUE IN NOUMEA. By Cable — Press Association —Copyright. Sydney, October 20. News was received by mail of eight cases of plague at Noumea from September 17 to October 17, comprising one Japanese and seven Kanakas. Five cases proved fatal. The authorities are endeavouring to stamp the outbreak out.

Macartney, the cricketer, has returned. During the voyage his portmanteau was rifled ;tnd jewellery and other articles valued at £IOO were stolen.
THE AUSTRALIAN SHIPPING COMPANY. Melbourne, October 29.
A Hobart firm has presented a petition for the winding up of the Australian Shipping Company, Melbourne, on the ground that judgment for £IBB lis fld has not been satisfied. The petition has been'accepted, and an official liquidator appointed.
