At the inquest a cousin of Donnelly's admitted that Thompson had transferred his affections from Donnelly to her. On the night of the tragedy he visited her house and told her that Donnelly had threatened to shoot him. Other evidence showed that Donnelly purchased i revolver and some lysol, and tracked Thompson from her cousin's house.
