Mr. Griffith, referring to railway extension, said he was going to be extravagant, as the Treasurer would allow him the next loan, and perhaps two or three loans, not raised in Australia. He did not desire to deplete the local money market. The railways had long paid interest and working expenses, and it did not matter how much monev was raided.

It is impossible to say whether it will be to-morrow or whether it mav be'staved off for a few years. The state of apprehension is quite extraordinary.
