EMPIRE THEATRE. Another good programme of films was submitted to an appreciative audience at the Empire Theatre on Sat.nday night.. There were several excellent .scenic pictures, which undoubtedly Horn tlio best/substitute for actual travel. A film of great educational vaiue was that dealing 'with the mining of aspha't. She, in a dramatic scene, saves the gay philanderer in the paths of love from the punishment he justly deserves at the hands of her own lover, and in the final scene she refuses his offered, reward for saving the life she scorns to be paid for. The Railroad Engineer was a drama of the railway, and portrays the faithful love of a young engine driver, for a somewhat flighty damsel, whose head is turned bv a gay city interloper. The gay Lothario proves a coward, the girl saves her true lover's train from disaster, and the story ends in the crood old-fashioned style. The exploits of Nat Pinkerton is a strong detective storv, with manv thrilling episodes. Mr. Funnieuss in his wooing of a rich young American girl provides endless laughter and is in the end successful under hilarious circumstances. Some chod aeroplane flights were also screened. the audience getting a realistic demonstration of the delights and perils of the latest form of locomotion.
