PETROLEUM.
The Government, has paid over to the Taranaki (New Zealand) Oil Wells, Limited, the second instalment of the bonus, amounting to £2500, for oil now at Moturoa. The work of erecting two derricks at Bell Block is well in hand, and the contractors have commenced excavating tho well 6 preliminary to the insertion of the drilling tools. The arrival at Melbourne on the 26th instant is reported of the s.s. Whakania, which is bringing the rotary drilling plant to the Dominion.
