FIRE IN GILL STREET.
HOUSE PARTIALLY GUTTED. A (ire partially destroyed a house in Grill street, about two o'clock, yesterday morning, which was occupied by. Mr. C. Robertson, and owned by Mr. R. Coleman. The lire had a strong hold when the Brigade arrived 011 the scene, and by the time it was subdued the building was partially gutted considerable damage being done. Fo»tunately there was 110 wind at the time, otherwise, considering the strong hold it had, it would have been razed to the ground. The house was insured in the South British Company for £450. There was no insurance 011 the furniture, the bulk of which wis destroyed, and the balance damaged. It is thought that a defective chimney was the cause of the outbreak.
Several bandsmen were boarding in tho house, and they have had the misfortune to lose their uniforms and instruments, which also were not insured. Mr. Robertson is a heavy loser over the fire, and a movement is on foot, in which the band will participate, to provide an entertainment with a view to recouping some of the losses sustained.
