THE LAKE COLERIDGE STRIKE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. " Mr. A. Paterson, secretary of the Canterbury General Laborers' Union, takes exception to some of the statements made by Mr. W. Fiv.ser, Minister of Public Works, iu the House of Repre-, sentativc.-s yesterday with regard to the trouble between the contractor for the tunnel at Lake Coleridge and the men. To-day Mr. Paterson sent the following telegram to Mr. Fraser: "Ru Lake Coleridge,—l emphatically deny that I informed the enginee'r that the report that the men were compelled to obtain meals at the contractor's boarding-house was untrue. Re engine-driver dismissed, —The union never complained about the man. He holds a certificate." The strike still continues.

THE LAKE COLERIDGE STRIKE. Christchureh, Last Night. On Monday night a demonstration was made by the strikers at Lake Coleridge against one of the carpenters employed on the works. He was called a "scab" and other objectionable names, and the man then kicked and knocked him about until he had to seek shelter in the contractor's ImS, -whore he is now quartered. A conference took place to-day between the contractor and a deputation from the men, but without result, and the strike continues.
