Football circles and the public generally will regret exceedingly to hear of the death of Mr. Wilfred Beckett, an old New Plymouth boy, news of which is to hand from Toowomha, Queensland. The late Mr. Beckett had a brilliant scholastic career and was also prominent in athletics. He was dux of the High School, and as a footballer played for 'the Star seniors. He qualified for his LL.B., and went to Petone to practise as a solicitor, subsequently going to Dannevirke and Wihangarei. Owing to continued ill-health he sought a change of climate, going over to Australia, There he underwent treatment at various sanitaria, but all without avail, and when he settled in Toowomba the end was not unexpeted. As a good sport, a brilliant scholar, and a respected citizen, the late Mr. Beckett was deservedly held in high esteem.
