THS PANTOMIME. I "SINBAD THE SAILOR." Writes the critic of the Svdney Bulletin, of "Sinbad the Sailor"* to be nrewnted here to-morrow, evening at the .theatre Royal:—"The new J C Williamson Pantonine Extravaganza' "Sin>ad the Sailor" is evidently'a thin" of beauty and a joy to the multitude. It is is said to be a dream of pink fleshings and delicately blended colors interspersed with wild monstrosities and reasonable humor. Xo part of the plot is overdone-and the inevitable dame in he person of Pip Powell is a comparatively feminine person. The dame's one opportunity for indiscretion is averted bv a shipwreck which lands the voyagers m the Diamond Valley belonging to the Old Man of the Sea," where a prehistoric monster opens its mouth and disgorges a choice assortment of beautiful SJi •• Tl ]f IP 1 * S ee " o£ the Play k the * lying Ballet." with visions of fairies flying overhead flashing their limbs to the upturned gaze of mortals who are looking for trouble. An item of much merit is*supplied by the Sleedes—a party who leave amazement furtively scratching its head in a vain endeavor to find out "how it's done." Finally, there is an emblematical profusion "that is a blaze of glory a;;d a transient vision of beautiful girls. T.:ken bv an largo the pantomime of i,s the best yet;' It is said that the company is exceptionally strong numerically, aiul the costumes, grouping and dancing are all effective. One „f the most beautiful scenes is the "ikliet of Hoses" in the Persian garden. This closes with the "Flying Pullc" where the dancers soar out. over the heads of the audience almost to the rail of ,the dress-circle, j scattering flowers beneath, them. The Diamond Ballet in the Valley'of Diamonds is another very beautiful feature, the lighting effects being wonderful. The [dancers emerge from the mouth of the ; Serpent,'which ■guards the valley, and the whole effect, elaborate costumes, and blazing light*, is p:irt : :>ulr.rly fine; There are, many other scenes and ballets of great beauty, while a touch of variety is added by. the Sleedes- in their illusion, "The Mysterious Hotel/There will be a matinee on Friday afternoon.
EMPIRE PICTURE' PALACE. DICK TFRPrX. To-night the Empire Pictures change programme again, and the new programme is a surprise packet of the very latest, including amongst other great attractions the startling, adventures of that King of Highwaymen, ''Dick Turpin." Who lias not read and delighted in the miraculous escapes of this daredevil robber and his -"Bonny Black Bess?" It is a picture that will undoubtedly interest both young and old, and'prove a big attraction for the Empire Theatre. Another "star'' picture that lias created a sensation in Wellington and Auckland is the Bison 2000 feet sensation, "The. Indian Massacre," a thrilling tale of one of the greatest Indian uprisings. The Vita-graph Company are well to the fore with a powerful dramatic picture, "Council for the Defence," in which Maurice Costello and Miss Helen Gardiner appear in the leading parts. There are also scenic, comic and industrial pictures.
THE DAUGHTER MAKERS. An attraction distinctly out oi Hie ordinary iwi-11 be. provided in the Theatre Royal iliis evening,/ in the, shape of a combined vaudeville and kinematograph entertainment. The Wykeham-Nable Company are providing the vaudeville. The troupe includes several vaudeville artists of note, with a big reputation for vocal and comedic work. The programme comprises a host of sparkling items, and some clever novelty turns new to the local stage. The personnel of the Company speaks for itself when the names of such capable performers as Miss Maud Chetwynd (for many years a leading light in Mr. Hugh Ward's companies), and that clever and versatile dancer, Mr. E. Xahle. with whom she is bracketed in several numbers, are mentioned. To Miss Pressy Preston the audience may look for soubrctte work of a high order, while the Company has several balladisits and singers in lighter strain to add variety, to the bill-of-fare. This will be the Company's last appearance prior fo their departure for Australia on Fridav, and on this account popular prices will be charged, the admission being 2s and Is.
