A MNG TRAGEDY. London, September 20. Boxing in the Liverpool Stadium, George Mackness knocked out Alan Porter in eight rounds. Porter was taken to the hospital, and is still unconscious. Mackness has been arrested.
THE WESTPORT TOURNAMENT,
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Westport, Last Night. The Westport Boxing Association concluded a two nights' tournament last night. The only event of importance on the first night was the bout between J. O'Neill (Westport) and Saunders (Greymouth). This terminated at the end of the first round through Saunders getting his collarbone broken by coming into sharp collision with his ppponent's head. Last Night Kennedy (Denniston) defeated Dunn (Nelson), who threw in his towel in the fifth round. Barry (Christchurch) defeated Reid, Sen. (Westport) in a six rounds bout on points. Cousins (Nelson) did likewise with King (Denniston). The professional match, W. Hannan v. P. Cook, fifteen rounds, for a purse of £SO, went the full distance, and was won by Hannan on points. The men were very evenly -matched, the onlookers being fairly divided as to which was the better man.
