MINISTERS' STIPENDS.
APPALLING POVERTY. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Adelaide, September 20. The Baptist Union discussed a proposal to raise £SOOO in connection with the Jubilee o£ the Union in 1913, the money to be used to provide stipends to accredited ministers temporarily without pastorates, in recognition of long and faithful service. One member wished for an amendment making the money available for missions. Several speakers protested against the money being devoted to missions while pastors were so poorly paid. The Rev. A. H. Collins offered to give the names of three men who. after working for over thirty years, were now receiving thirty shillings weekly. The statement created a sensation, and the motion was agreed to in its original form, also n motion appointing a special fommittee to consider the advisability of fixing a minimum stipend of £250.
