In the Assembly Mr. Cochrane, speaking on the ousting of Lord Denman from Government House, said that the Gover-nor-General was able to take care of himself. It did not concern him (Mr. Cochrane) where he went, because the time was fast approaching when the King's crown might be in the melting pot and the money received used to relieve the poverty in England. The Liberal members should show greater interest in the poorer classes than in titled exalted personages. • ,
THE QUEENSLAND BUDGET.
Received 20, 10 p.m. Brisbane, September 20.
The Treasurer has delivered his Budget. The revenue for the year was £9,088,347, constituting a record, being £215,759 above the estimate. The expenditure was £5,065,692. The estimated revenue for the current year is £6,268,302, and the expenditure £2,2G2.633. The population last year increased by 22,998, including 13,699 immigrants. The amount spent on immigration was £161,655. Land selected amounted to 6,730,464 acres, a record. It is estimated that 575 miles of new railways will be opened this year. The policy of opening up the country is to be vigorously pushed on.
