To the Editor, Sir,—ln your paper this morning there is mention of the above in the Parliamentary news. Hay I give some of my experiences? T have had several trees die, and an examination found a peculiar swelling at the root and only a few small fibrous roots, so that the trees could not get any hold in the ground, came to nothing, and eventually died. On telling a man of my acquaintance, he said: "Did you ever buy any canaries, linnets, etc., and find them die also?" I enquired what he meant, as that h;td nothing to do with trees. "All!" he replied; "there are tricks in all trades. The bird fancier gives the poor little bird an extra squeeze when he puts it into your cage. It soon dies, and then you buy another from him." "P>ut," T remarked, "the liur-.eryman can't give a tree a squeeze, and kill it." "No," he said, with a knowing \yink, "but lie can tie a knot in the tap root, though!"
