THE MANAWATU CHAMPIONSHIPS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Palmerston North, Last Night. The Manawatu Golf Club championship meeting, which has heen largely attended by outside golfers, concluded at Rokowhitu to-day. The heavy rain of the night .before cleared off in time to start, and the sandy course had not suffered. In the championship semi-finals, Lnlay Saunders (Wanganui), playing a very fine game, beat Kapi Tare'ha (Hawke's Bay), 5 up and 4 to play, effecting a surprise. Two local men, Druc-e and Barraud, had to go to the 21st hole before Barraud won. The final in the afternoon provided a splendid game. Both went out in 37, and came home in 42, Barraud' beating Saunders one up. Barraud once before won this championship, and is the local club champion. D. K. Murray (8), (Hawke's Bay) won the bogey handicap 2 up, E. O. Sim (7 square) being second. Slack Brothers won the four-ball handicap, 70—14—02. NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. A bogey match in connection with the Medley Cup was played yesterday afternoon, resulting in a win for W. P. Nicol with one up. W. Bewley was one down, and F. lianas three down. THE TARAHUA ,CLUB. The first round of the Thursday players for the club's championship was played yesterday, Broome defeating Perry by 2 up, and Avery defeating J. G. List by 3 up. G. Grey and Chong will play off the semi-final for Saturday men to-mor-row.
The entries for the events in the forthcoming New Zealand championship meeting have now reached 150. The ground is in good order, and arrangements are being made for the accommodation of visitors. Messrs. W. and A. Bewley and W. Weston, New Plymouth, are competing.
