THE LADIES' CHAMPIONSHIP. By Telegraph—Press Association. Nelson, Last Night. The eighteenth, ladies' golf championship tournament of New Zealand, under the management of the Ladies' Golf Union, opened at the Tohuanui links today. The weather was unfavorable. There was a good entry of players, although not so many as at the last meeting. Those present include Miss L. Brandon (present champion), Mrs. Guy Williams (probably the most experienced player competing), Miss Snodgrass (West Coast champion), Miss Gould (last year's runner-up), Mrs. Slack (1910 runner-up), Miss E. Ledger (Nelson chamipon), Miss Gorric (Auckland and Napier champion), and: Miss Pearce (who was defeated ia the semi-final last. year). The opening event was the first round of the championship, which was played in the morning. In the afternoon a stroke handicap, senior and junior, was played. Neither of the events produced good scores. i The championship results are as follows.— First Round. Miss Gould beat Mrs. MacLaren, 7 up and 0 to play. Mrs. Slack "beat Miss J. Mill, 5 up and 3 to play. Miss Theomin beat Miss P. Anderson, 1 up. Miss Burness beat Miss Rattray, 3 up and 2 to piny. Miss Tweed beat Miss Cross, 5 up' and 4 to play. The following are the leading scores in' the stroke handicap:— Seniors. ; . Miss Abraham, 97—11—86. Miss Snodgrass, 96—8—88. Miss W. Hanrmy, 95—8—87. Misa G. Gorrie, 95—6—89. Mrs. McCarthy, 99—9—90.
