Mr. Pearce, commenting on the view expressed by the Times that the Australian fleet, in obedience to the Commonwealth policy in the Pacific, may commit the other partner* in the Empire, declared that he n-gsirded it as an extreme improbability, if not an impossibility. The whole basis of the agreement "was that in foreign waters there was only one control; therefore there was only one fleet. In the House, during the Budget dehate, Dr. Maloney advocated that Australia, besTcles building its own fleet unit, should construct a fleet of Dreadnoughts to present to the dear Homeland. .. ~A GENERAL BOTHA'S VIEWS.
