Mr. Stanley Shaw is suffering from an attack of scarlet fever. Mr. C. S. Kiven, Collector of Customs at Wellington, died shortly after 2 , o'clock yesterday morning. He waa 57 j years of age. j Members of the Taranaki Hospital | Board yesterday welcomed one of their number, Mr. G. V.'Tate, of Waitara, who has been absent from several meetings on account of a severe illness. Sir James Carroll was tendered a dinl ner on Tuesday by Mr. H. Tukino at his ' residence, Kilbirnie, on the occasion ' of tlie former's birthday. There were about 150 Maoris and eighteen Europeans present. _ The dinner took the form of a Maori feast, and 110 tables and chairs were used. Sir James was the recipient of a set of handsome fish knWes with greenstone handles, and an elaborate, set of pipes. Mr, and Mrs. -las. Wilson, of New Plymouth, celebrated their golden wedding yesterday. The function took the shape of an elaborate dinner, which was held at the Terminus Hotel, and which was attended by a number of relatives and friends. There was a happy little gathering and a most enjoyable evening' was spent, the ''golden" couple being the recipients of many hearty congratulations upon their matrimonial record. A very pleasant little function took place in the Tikorangi Hall on Wednes-
day in the shape of a presentation of a gold watch, suitably inscribed, to Mr. Knuckey. who is severing the ties which for such a long period bound him with the fortunes of the Tikorangi Co-opera-tive Dairy Company. The presentation was made by Mr. Jas Hine, Jr., in the presence of a good attendance of residents. Mr. Knuckey, lie said, had sat continuously as a director, since the incorporation of the company 17 years ago. He had been largely instrumental in placing the company in its present happy position, and of him it might bo said, next to his sound common-sense, the outstanding feature of his. conduct and attitude as a director was his cheerful optimism. Mr. Hine concluded byi wishing Mr. Knuckey every happiness and prosperity in the future.
