ENTERTAINMENTS.

I EMPIRB PICTURES. There was a veritable feast of good things at the Empire Theatre last night on the occasion of the. bi-weekly change of programme. More than the usual number of star films are included jn the bill of fare, which is of the best. Principal among these is the Nordisk drama, "Love in the Tropics," which deals with the tragedy of a marriage in which white marries black. It is a thoroughly human story, with a clear insight into the inner phases of life, and, although revelling in domesticity, possesses so many elements of interest that the attention of the audience is at once riveted. The opening scone is very spectacular, being typical of the Oriental splendor with which the mansions of the rich are furnished in the East. The' lilm is beautifully colored. Although the wonderful feats with rope and broncho of cowboys of Western America are often read of in fiction, it is seldom that one has the opportunity of actually witnessing performances of the kind. This facility is afforded in "The Round-up on •liar Z Ranch, Oregon," in which cowboys and cowgirls are shown at work and at play; rouuding-up over 40,000 head of cattle, roping and taming wild horses, driving wild buffalo, roping and .bull-dogging steers, and the like. To lasso and tie up a steer in two minutes is a feat requiring considerable skill ami strength, but '"bull-dogging" is an even more hazardous feat. The m«ji tackle a steer, throw it over, and hold it down by the teeth by catching hold of its tongue, and thus rendering it helpless. Other line, pictures include ''The Monarch* of the Prairie/' "The Goddes? of Sage-hush Gulch," a splendid snap of the English Derby, 1912, '"Modern Weapons for Eire-fighting in New York City," an interesting issue of the '"Gaiunont Graphic," and several rattling comedies.
