THE CARRIAGE OF FRUIT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington:, Last Night. At the Fruitgrowers' Conference, after discussing the federation question and the raising of funds for the expansion of the fruit industry, the subject was deferred for twelve months to enable the associations to discuss it. It was decided that the Government be asked to erect cool stores in the main centres, the association to pay interest and sinking fund. It was recommended that all cases used for marketing fruit should be stamped with a uniform brand. It was resolved to ask the Minister of Railways to reduce the charges on fruit cases and canned fruit case material, and that a system be established of through booking by rail and steamer and provision for soft fruits on express trains. Messrs. Sisson, Tonar, Stevens and Moffatt were appointed a deputation to wait on the Minister of Railways. The conference will be continued to-morrow.
