TLMARU HIGH SCHOOL. By Telegraph—Press Association. Timaru, Last Night. . The Timaru High School Board received 35 applications for the rectorship of the Boys' School at £SOO, and reduced the lisj; to three, and postponed final selection ; until they have seen each of the three personally. AN, OBDURATE TERRITORIAL. Hawera, Last Night. In tlie Magistrate's Court a Territorial named I Garfield Ogle pleaded not guilty to failjure to attend parades. Defendant urged conscientious objections, but the Magistrate said he was not satisfied this was so, and therefore he did not appear entitled to exemption. Defendant stated he was not prepared to attend parades, pay the line, or do anything. Defendant's counsel endeavored to persuade .'his client to reconsider his decision. The latter was obdurate. The Magistrate remarked that defendant's attitude was pure defiance of tlie law, and iiied him £5 and costs (12s). ; INFECTIOUS DISEASES. Hawera, Last Night. At the ITawera Hospital meeting today a. resolution was carried that the attention of the Department be called to cases of infectious diseases being landed in the Dominion, thereby causing a burden on hospital boards, and suggesting that greater care be exercised in the inspection of passengers at the port of departure.
