MINER IMPOSES ON HIS MATES. By Telegraph—Press Association. Invercargill, Last Night. An unusual case was heard before Mr. Cruickshanks, S.M., at Otautau today, when Samuel Arlow, a miner at Nightcaps, was charged with obtaining 5s 6d bv means of false pretences. The miners at Nightcaps are supplied .with metal tokens, bearing a miner's number, and these tokens are affixed to a truck filled by miners, who are paid Is 2d per truck. Evidence showed that Arlow had substituted his token for those of another miner, and had obtained payment for three trucks filled by his mates. The magistrate imposed a fine of £6, but subsequently reduced it to £2, as the .costs amounted to £5 10s.
