A TERRITORIAL TROUBLE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Core, Last Night. The charge was that, on July 30, he was ordered by Captain Glendining to proceed to Balfour as headquarters from August 1. lie replied: "I refuse to do so," or words to that effect. Sutton gave evidence to the effect that Quartermaster-Sergeant Graham informed him on alighting from tk« train at Gore that he was to proceed to Balfour for the purpose of selecting a house and to get two tenders for the removal ol his effects. Witness left the same day for Balfour and returned next morning, reporting hi.s 'inability to get a house as none were available. Sutton was ordered to get tenders for the removal of his furniture, despite his inability to get a house. Witness put the facts of his mission before Captain Glendining, and expressed the opinion that the Department would have to make other arrangements. On July 29 Captain Glendining asked witness point blank whether he would go to Balfour or not. Witness asked Captain Glendining's permission to see a group of officers for the purpose of complaining of Captain Glendining's bearing towards him. This was refused. He replied to Captain Glendining: ''No, Sir, I do not refuse duty, but I cannot go to Balfour as there are no quarters there." Captain Glendining said: "You can go home, and consider yourself under open arrest." Mr. Cochrane, for the accused, addressed the court, which adjourned to deliberate. On resuming it was recorded that the court had ajourned further proceedings in order to consult Colonel Bauchope, the officer commanding the district.
