SENATE ADOPTS THE CONFERENCE DECISION. By Cable —Press Association—Copyright. New York. August 1(3. •» The Panama Canal Bill has reached its final stages. The opponents of the Bill as it now stands intend to endeavor to secure the carrying over of the measure till December. The Democratic Partyi however, is expected to support the amended Bill. Senator Brandegee is leading the fight against the Bill. A compromise has already been reached. The Senate adopted the decision of the conference in the Panama Canal Bill by forty-eight to eighteen. Senator Brandegee's fight was unavailing. UNEXPECTED OPPOSITION DEVELOPED. Received IS, 5.5 p.m. Washington. August 1(1. Unexpected opposition has developed in the House of Representatives to the Panama Bill. Mr. Moore led olf by charging the. conference with adding unauthorised matter to the Bill, namely, the provision allowing of the free entry of shipbuilding materials into the United States. He urged that the conference had no power, and that the item was not sanctioned by either House.
The House adjourned without arriving at n decision.
The supporters of a compromise are chagrined, as they fully expected that the measure would be approved.
