FOOTBALL.
; WAIRARAPA (48) v. KELSON (5). By Telegraph—Press Association. ' Carterton, Last Night. The weather was splendid, the ground fast, and the ball dry for the match between Wairarapa and Nelson. Nelson won the toss, but had no advantage of ends. The Wairarapa forwards very soon proved their superiority by their weight, compared with Nelson, allowing them to push tiheir way through with the ball at their toe. A feature of Nelson's defence was the line-kicking of Vereoe and Saunders, but both these players suffered injury early in the game, Vereoe in the knee and Saunders in the shoulder. Vereoe retired. Smith also turned his ankle, but played on. Nelson played stubbornly, contesting every inch, but once the Wairarapa backs got possession a score was certain. Passing rushes were a feature of the Wairarapa team's play. Before halftime Wairarapa rattled up 19 points to Nelson's 5. On resuming Nelson vigorously attacked, but were steadily pushed back, and Wairarapa added another 28 points, Nelson remaining stationary. The final score was: Wairarapa 48, Nelson o. The game was interesting from start to finish, and although the score shows a great difference Nelson played a splendid uphill game. The following scored tries for Wairarapa: Groube (3), Spackman (2), Sievera (2), O'Brien, Bond, Hodge, and Ross. Spackman kicked a penalty goal and converted three tries, and Sandel also converted three. For Nelson Knapp scored, Vereoe converting.
