POLICE GRAFT.
STARTLING DISCLOSURES. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. New York, August 14. The disclosures as to the prevalence of graft in the city police force are amazing. The bank clearing houses are aiding the district attorneys and the grand juries in the investigations. The outcome of the banks' enquiries has disclosed that a regular tariff was payable monthly to policemen by gamblers and keepers of disorderly bouses. Detectives find that Lieutenant Becker, who is under arrest for the murder of the gambler Rosenthal, lodged £IO,OOO in the bank in a single year.
Other startling disclosures are promised. The revelations have stirred the whole city.
