STAR OF CANADA.
SALVAGE OPERATIONS SUSPENDED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Gisborne, Tuesday. The Star of Canada salvage operations had to be suspended last night,, as the water broke through into the engineroom and No. 4 hold. The vessel settled down, the boiler fires were extinguished, and the salvors were without steam for the winches. The heavy machinery is covered with water and is believed to be beyond hope of rescue, though the refrigerating engines may possibly be recovered. Niven and Co., it is stated,
have not purchased the vessel, but were employed by the salvage authorities to dismantle the machinery.
