MERGING ST. AUBYN.
TOWN BOARD'S TRUMP CARD. What the Mayor described as a "nasty little communication" was to hand at last night's meeting of the Borough Council, from the Department of Internal Affairs. The Depirtment enclosed a copy of the following letter, which it had received from the secretary of the St. Aubyn Town Board: ''l have to acknowledge the receipt of your advice of the 12th ultimo, covering a Gazette notice re merging the St. Aubyn Town District with the Borough of New Plymouth. lam directed by the Board to inform you that no objection will be lodged by the Board against merging, but the Board wishes to point out that owing to important public works which are on hand, it is not considered advwable for the merging to take place before the end of the financial year, viz., ■March 31, 1913." Referring to St. Aubyn's letter, the Mayor remarked: "I do not know that these people can gain anything by the delay, but it means a lot to New Plymouth, as we want to come forward with various schemes we have in view." Councillors decided to consider the position at a special meeting to be held next Monday. The Council will then consider the advisableness of combatting the Town Board's request.
