OLD AGE PENSIONS.
A WARNING TO WORKERS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Saturday. At the Magistrate's Court to-day William Deare, aged 70, was charged with making a false declaration regarding his income and property to obtain a renewal of his old-age pension. The prosecuting counsel alleged that defendant in twelve months prior to July 2 had earned £O9, whereas he declared he had not earned the maximum of £35 allowed by the Act. The Department did not ask for a penalty, but wished it to be known that applications must be truthful as to pecuniary position. Deare, who said he had not made the false declaration wilfully, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon.
