AFTER SEVEN YEARS
A THIEF ARRESTED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, July 25. The long arm of the law was demonstrated to-day, when a man named George Paul was charged at the Magistrate's Court with offences committed as far back as 1905 and 1910. On November 24, 1905, Paul, while at Himitangi, stole a bicycle valued at £2O from a man named Funnell. He subsequently disposed of this at Pahiatua, and from that time on the police lost all trace of the misdemeanant. In 1910 he again came to the fore. He was, working on the farm of Mr. O'Sullivan, at Mangaoronga, in the King Country. He was employed on a fencing job,, but, tiring of this, decided to flit once more, steal' ing a horse from his employer. He provided himself with a pea-rifle, a leather belt, and a sheath knife, a rug, and some clothing, the value of these goods being assessed at £5 18s. He rode the horse until it was tired, and then turned it loose. 'All the purloined goods he stored in the Te Kuiti railway station, and later on they were sold as lost luggage. He was next arrested on a charge of housebreaking at Nelson. Two' charges were preferred against him this ; morning, and on each he was sentenced to one month's imprisonment. He is to be taken before the Supreme Court on the Nelson charge.
