TYPOGRAPHICAL UNION.

CELEBRATING A JUBILEE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Wellington Typographical Union celebrated the attainment of its jubilee by a smoke concert last evening. The president, Mr. G. C. Barker, was in the chair. There were about 300 persons present, among the guests being Mr. F. M. B. Fisher, Minister of Customs and Marine, Mr. A. H. Hindraarsh, M.P., and Mr. D. McLaren, Mayor of Wellington. Apologies were received from Mr. W. F. Massey, Prime Minister and Minister of Labor, Mr. A. L. Herdman, Minister of Justice, the Hon. J. Rigg, M.L.C., and Dr. Newman, M.P. The chairman said that during its fifty years of existence the main plank of the Union had been reasonableness, not red revolution. The Union was starting its fifty-first year with over £IOOO in the general fund. Responding to the toast of Parliament,, Mr. Fisher said that the good work done by the Liberal Party in the past was going to be carried on by the new Government. There had been a call for progressive legislation, and if the party of which he was a member did not give progressive legislation it expected to be executed at the next general election.
