WORK AND WAGES.
THE REEFTON STRIKE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Reefton, Last Night. The Inangahua Times reports that Saturday's meeting resolved to refer the question of arbitration, offered by the Mine Owners' Association, to the executive of the Federation of Labor sitting in Wellington on Thursday. LIVING ON PIPIS. "Let the Capitalist go to blazes. If things come to the worst you can go down to the beaeh and live on pipis"— Labor agitator at Waihi. At last the sphinx has spoken, and gone are clouds of doubt; Xow we benighted mortals know what the din's about. And Labor's aim and objects are mysteries no more, Their Mecca is to gather pipis on the sandy shore. Now, then, ye lordly squatters, ye kings of beef and' wool, : Likewise ye struggling cocky, with pig and horse and bull, Go, liberate your live stock, their days of use are o'er, The populace of the future will be dining on the shore.
W'hen the Employer's in Gehenna, and 1 Labor's on the beach, Where will 'be the agitator, what creed will he then preach? Will be blend 'his song of freedom with the breakers' sullen roar? Will he join the festive navvy gathering pipis on the shore? —FRANK BELL. Kohuratahi, July 19.
