GISBORNE OIL FIELDS.
THE ROTARY DRILLING SYSTEM.

■Mr. G. T. Williams, who has had considerable experience on the oil. fields of Russia, Trinidad, Persia and other fields, and who was sent out from London to report on the properties of the Now Zealand Oil 'Fields, Ltd., with a view to overcoming the drilling problem, which up to the present has been an insurmountable difficulty to the exploiting of Poverty Bay as an oil producing centre, after mature deliberation advised the installation of a rotary drilling plant, capable of boring to a depth of 4000 feet if necessary. This is the first rotary in Australasia, and the system, which has revolutionised drilling in several fields, both in America and elsewhere, proved 011 a trial here last week to be the only one which will overcome the difficulty for this district.
