TIMARU HOSPITAL.
CHARGES REFUTED.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Tiraaru, Last Night.
Anonymous letters in the local press, alleging that the nurses at the hospital ) were overworked and frequently ill, j caused the Board to make enquiry, and j at a meeting to-day the chairman read I a comparative statement showing the > proportion of nurses to the daily aver- - age of patients in this and other hospitals as follows:—Timaru 2-2, Napier , 2.4, Waikato 3, Wanganui 1-4, Nelson 3-2, J Southland 2-7, Gisborne 2, Thames 3, j Palmerston North 2. Reckoned in the j same manner the domestic staff is larger i than at any other hospital named. The j matron and nurses are indignant at the j letters, and say that they have made j no complaints and have none to make. I, The Board decided to ask the new Min- -J ister to look into the -old claim for sub- ) sidy withheld; also to pay ior the erec--) tion of a padded cell and a permanent I male attendant for violent mental cases, including delirium tremens. j
