AN ACCIDENT FEARED.

It is feared that Lionel Field, aged 21, son of the stationmaster at Waiwera South, has been drowned in the Pomahaka river. He left home on Sunday evening to proceed to his place of employment at Upper Clydevale, hut did not reach there. His horse has been found on an island in the river, which was dragged to-day. About two months ago another of Field's sons was killed at Palmerston North, through a motor-car accident.

A DROWNING FATALITY. Auckland, Tuesday. A young man named George Croul was drowned in the Kirikiri river, close to his home. His boat capsized two hundred yards from the shore. The accident was witnessed by several people, but Croul sank before help could reach him. His body was recovered later. A CHILD MISSING. Christcliurch, Tuesday. The five-year-old son of C. Smith, builder, has been missing since Friday afternoon. The police have been dragging the river Avon resultlessly. BUSHFALLING ACCIDENT AT OKOKE. A' young man named William Joseph Renton met with a fatal accident at Olcoke on Monday evening whilst engaged in bushfalling. The young man was employed by Mr. A. D. Lucas, and at about 5 p.m., whilst filliiv a- tree, his axe jammed. Mr. Lucas freed the axe and finished the cut whilst deceased was seated on a stump near by. When the tree was about to fall he commenced to run. As he was going in the direction that the tree was falling, Mr. Lucas called out to him two or three times to stop or change his direction. It was, however, unavailing, as the tree caught him before he got clear, killing him instantly. Dr. Blackley was telephoned ror and proceeded to the scene, but could only pronounce life extinct. An inquest will be held to-day. The deceased was 22 years old and single. He has a sister residing at Mimi, beyond Urenui.
