STRIKE IN BRITAIN.
FURTHER TROUBLE. By Cable —Press Association—Copyright. London, July 15. Owing to an attack on the tilbury railway, troops are guarding the line. Captain Tupper, of the Sailors and Firemen's Union, asserts that the transport workers are incensed at non-union-ists carrying firearms, and are now selling the remnants of their furniture to purchase weapons. Twelve thousand Liverpool dockers have struck as a protest against the inauguration of a clearing-house scheme to facilitate the collection of insurance contributions. THE HYDE PARK STAMPEDE. London, July 15. Many women and children were trampled on in Hyde Park durinz the stampede following the baton charges, and were treated in hastily improvised hospital camps. Mr. George Lansbury, M.P., was roughly handled. Several rioters have been sentenced to various terms ol imprisonment up to two months. HOPES OF A SETTLEMENT. London. July 15. Messrs. Gosling anl Orbell, representing the strikers, had an interview to-day with Lord Devonport. chairman of the Port of London Authority. This has raised hopes of a settlement. Consequently the Prime Minister has postponed his promised statement. SETTLEMENT NEGOTIATIONS. Received 16, 10.55 p.m. London, July 10. The Strike Committee is waiving its demand for the reinstatement of tnose whose places have been filled. It gave Messrs. Gosling and Orbell a free hand to proceed with the negotiations with Lord Devonport. These arc being resumed to-day.
