APPEAL COURT.
UNPROFESSIONAL CONDUCT. By Telegraph—Press Assoclatien. Wellington, Monday. In the Appeal Court, Justices Stout, Williams, Edwards, Cooper and Chapman sat this morning to hear an application by the Wellington District Law Society for an order to strike John Geo. Stevens, of Otaki, off the roll of solicitors, upon the ground of unprofessional conduct in respect to the following:— On October 14, 1910, while acting ostensibly for a native woman, but really in the interests of one S. East, he applied to the Public Trustee for a loan to the native of £IOOO upon the security of certain land belonging to her, representing that the money was required for the purpose of improving the land. By means of such representation Stevens induced the Trustee to grant a loan, whereas the money was intended for the purchase of a share in an'invention for indicating the position of sunken vessels, in which Stevens and others were interested. It was also .alleged that Stevens induced a native ko pay £BOO out of the loan for a share in the patent. The case is proceeding.
