THE GAMING ACT.
CHARGES IN WELLINGTON. By Telegraph—Press Association. ' Wellington, Monday. At the. Magistrate's Court. James Scott, Harry 'Martindale and Matthew Livingstone were .charged with breaches "of the section of the Gaming Act relating to betting in licensed houses. Sir John Findlay said the case was the first under the particular section, and was brought before the court for interpretation. For each offence Scott was liable to a minimum fine of £2O. He suggested that one information be withdrawn said he would enter a plea of guilty on the-'first charge. The police adopted the course suggested and a fine of £2O was imposed. Decision was reserved in the ease in which Martindalo, was charged with paying a bet made by Scott. The other cases are proceeding.
