In connection with the Insurance Act the Government has been furnished with a report showing that the doctors' earnings in Darlington, Darwen, Dundee, Norwich and St. Albans are 4s 2d per head of the population. "THE MIGHTY FALLEN." New York, July 12. Albert Criffith, known as Griilo, ex-light-weight champion of Australia, has been arrested on a charge of begging. He stated that he was starving. He won a fortune in the prize ring, but had squandered it. ' EMIGRATION. London, July 12. The Review of Reviews advocates the establishment of an Imperial Board of Emigration. It mentions the existence of a quarter of a million British pauper children, and suggests that they should be trained in special schools, fitting them to occupy positions in the overseas Dominions. DEFECTIVE MEAT. London, July 12. David Weir, trading as the East London Produce Company, was sentenced at the Old Bailey to four months' imprisonment for having purchased defective tinned corned beef and re-sold it for human consumption. Sixty tins were discovered to be bad. MIXED SEAMEN. London, July 12. , <A Paris journal states that the lack of properly trained crews on vessels sailing to Algeciras is a serious danger. The officers are doing most of the work. In some cases the crew consists of unemployed waiters and chauffeurs, music hall artists and watchmakers.
