COST OF LIVING.

EVIDENCE IN WELLINGTON. By Telegraph—Press Association, Wellington, Yesterday. At the Cost of Living Commission to-day a statement was made that George George, director of the Auckland Technical College, had written requesting the withdrawal of his evidence, on the ground that it contained many errors. George had declined an oiler to be allowed to revise and correct the evidence. The Commission decided that the report of his evidence was an excellent condensation of what he had said. Fergus Munro, of Westport, recalled, gave evidence that an arrangement existed, controlled by the Union Company, and affecting all the smaller shipping companies, to carry the output of mines at a rate fixed between themselves, and that the combine'# ships were to be given preference by coal companies. Witness believed, as a result of the combination, that the public was paying more for coal than under freedom of trade, that coal measures in the Dominion were being lutmpored in development, and that much industrial unrest was caused 'by the condition of trade.
