WANGANUI HARBOR.
SATISFACTORY PROSPECTS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wanganui, Last Night. There is every indication that the deep water harhor predicted for Wanganui will come to pass, if the necessary money for the work is forthcoming. Mr. Leslie Reynolds in his 1805 report said. "It is expected when these works have )een carried out to the extent therein advised, that there will he a scour sufficient to maintain a depth at the entrance of from 12 to 14 feet at low water of spring tides, or equal to from 30 to 22 feet at high water of spring tides." These expectations have heen fully realised. Notwithstanding unfavorable winds and currents the bar continues to improve, and there is now a minimum depth of 2 feet, while both inside and outside this bar or crest there is much deeper water. Once the bar is removed there is every reason to believe that a minimum of 30 to 32 feet will be secured. At the last meeting of the board, when 22 feet on the bar was announced, Mr. W. J, Poison, who, on behalf of the country districts, lias been the chief opponent of the harbor works, congratulated the engineer on the greatly improved state of the entrance channel. He had, he said, previously held the opinion that the works would result in silting up the entrance, and it was very gratifying to find it was otherwise.
