THE BIBLE IN SCHOOLS
LEAGUE ORGANISER APPOINTED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. At a meeting of tire" executive of the Bible in State Schools League of New Zealand, held to-day, the Rev. Canon Garland, of Queensland", was appointed organising secretary of the League. Canon Garland has been for many years a strenuous advocate of the New South Wales system, and led the movement which resulted in its adoption in Western Australian in 18SJ5, and in Queensland in 1890. Canon Garland visited New Zealand less than two years ago', and since that date the Anglican, Presbyterian and Methodist synods and assemblies have fallen into line. The League has been formed and a policy has been agreed upon. Canon Garland will arrive in August, and subsequently an effort will be made to secure from Parliament a Referendum Act, so that the whole question may be submitted to the people. Mr. J. G. W. Aitfcen, of Wellington, has been appointed general treasurer of the League,
