NAPIER SESSIONS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Napier, Tuesday. At the opening of the Supreme Court, the Chief Justice congratulated the dis-' trict on the light calendar, presented. Referring to the case in which a Maori was charged with manslaughter, arising: out of a motor fatality at Waipawa, Sir Egbert Stout said that the fact of accused being under the influence of liquor did not diipose of his liability; it made matters worse. After the accident the throttle of the ear .was Jound open, and the car had evidently been travelling at the rate of forty miles an hour. Such neglect as had been exhibited was criminal. The jury returned true bills in all cases. Napier, Last Night. At tine criminal sittings of the Supreme Court Frederick Wilson, for theft of a horse and,gig.and harness, was acquitted. Thomas Carroll was found guilty of criminally assaulting a little girl at Wairoa and sentence was deferred till Friday. A ease in which Annie Solomon was charged with using an instrument for unlawful purposes was adjourned till next sessions, owing'to the illness of the woman on whom P the instrument was used.
