CLOSE OF THE CONGRESS. By Cable—!Pr«w Association—Copyright. London, June 14. The Congress of Chambers of Commerce has closed. It approved of the Australasian Chambers of Commerce resolution that there should be a uniform company law throughout the Empire. THE AUSTRALIANS BUSY. Received 16, 5.5 p.m. London, June 16. The Commerce Congress adopted the Manchester Chamber's resolution asking the next Imperial Conference to remove the hardships of duplicated claims on taxpayers in different parts of the Empire. Mr. Meeks (Sydney) proposed, and Mr. Alcock (Sydney) seconded that bills of lading should set out the fact that freight is being paid. Under the present position it was sometimes necessary to pay freight twice before goods could be obtained. The motion was carried. Mr. Meeks' motion that the Government or municipal authorities in such undertakings as gas, electric lighting and tram services, should publish an annual balance-sheet, was adopted.
