EVIDENCE REFUSED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christehurch, Thursday. When counsel for a witness subpoenaed by the Cost of Living Commission stated this morning that his client declined to give evidence, the chairman asked if any reason could he stated. Counsel replied in the negative. The chairman: 1 only ask because a counsel in Dunedin refused evidence on behalf of a client, declining to state reasons, and then wrote to the newspapers giving the reason which he had refused to give to the Commission.
