ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
CHARGE OF MANSLAUGHTER. ' By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. A middle-aged man uamed Henry Sjmonds, who was the victim of an assault near the Royal George Hotel on June 3, died in the hospital at 1.15 today. Deceased was a widower, who had been employed as a painter. The inquest was opened this afternoon. Dr. Thompson gave evidence that he considered death was the direct result of an injury to the brain. The injury could have been caused by a direct blow with a fist or a weapon. A man 20 years of age, named Albert Clements, is at present on, remand on a charge of assaulting the deceased on June 3, and he will be called upon to give evidence at the inquest on Saturday.
A SUDDEN DEATH. Auckland. Thursday. George Wadman, aged 70, an old resident of Onehunga, while lending n calf in the street dropped dead. FATAL TRAP ACWDENT. Hastings, Thursday. Two borough employees, John Walden and John Conway, were driving to work this morning when their horse shied, and the'driver pulling on the reins caused the bit to break. The horse bolted, and Conway, while trying to dismount from the tran. fell under the wheel and was killed almost instantaneously. Walden scrambled out of the rear of the trap and sustained cuts on his knees. Conway was 44 years of age, and leaves a wife and three children.
